Bettas ~ White HM x White HM ~ 6/26/08

GowinLlew

Alright, this one I’m not going to miss documenting! 6/26/08 put in Llew (white hm betta) in the breeder tank and Gowin into her breeder box in the breeder tank. They instantly start their flaring showing off and by this morning (6/27) Llew had made a great bubble nest. Gowin is showing stripes so I fed them froz blood worm this morning and let her loose in his tank at 9:20am

11:30 she’s just hiding and not interested at all, so I put her back in the breeder box, but left the lid off in case she changes her mind and wants to jump in with him. I’ll give them a few days with more micros (Gowin loves them!) and bloodworms, then we should be good to go. Llew is still working on his nest as I type here, it’s a thin layer, but a nice large spot. more to come!

As always, the pictures are and will be here - http://www.bettas.signsofyourtimes.us/bettaspawnblog6-26-08.html

6/28 - Alrighty then! All morning they have been flaring at each other. Llew has built another nest onthe outside of the cup (silly thing) and she’s for sure showing her bars, soooo I put them back in together and will leave them a lone a bit. The minute I took her out, she sped over to check out the nest, but then is hiding again… lol playing hard to get much???

6/29 - Nothing this morning. went to church and when I checked on them when we got home, I caught them in mid egg catching:) I grabbed the camera and…well here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAgiuITflqs
Whoot!!! So there will be babies soon! I’m going to assume that Llew will be a good dad as he’s not left the nest since I videoed them:) SO now Gowin is out and in her own tank and Llew is watching over the nest. I fed her right when I put her in and you’d think she hadn’t eaten in a month the way she attacked that food! lol I think she’s happy to be back in her tank all nice and slim now:)

7/1 - there be wigglers here! They (at least some) hatched last night and can be seen hanging below the bubble nest. I’m going to get some pics today of them as once again, SO DARN CUTE! Dad’s being a great father and just hanging out under the nest and going up from time to time to check on them. This is great!!!

7/2 - OH MY GOODNESS!!! okay, in my previous post about there be wigglers…check out my pics to see just how many little ones there are! how’s that for a first spawn!!! *gasp weeze*

7/11 - Alright, They are 2 weeks now! WHOOT!!! There’s not much different right now. I’ve lost a few, but not many. There’s got to be over 100 in there right now. They are eating a mix of microworms and decaps bbs and the angel fry powder I bought from angelsplus.com. The babies are growing quickly! Hopefully there’s be new pics soon:) I’m also going to do the first water change in the next day or 2. I’ll either use an air tube that goes into a bucket (so I can see if any fry get sucked up) or I’ll use a med dropper and just suck up the stuff on the bottom that way. It’s a bit slower that way, but I won’t suck up as many…lol (no worries, sucking up the babies doesn’t hurt them, it’s like what the parents do that parent raise when they suck the babies in their mouths).

7/28 ~ Well, due to unforseen events…actually they were forseen as it was the American Cichlid Assoc. conference that I was looking forward to for a loonnnggg time…anyway, no one’s fault, but the fry are all but gone. I think i’ve got 2 left that I was able to get into a new tank. So we’ll try again with these too just as soon as I get the tank cleaned and set up for breeding again. (hopefully tomorrow)

9/25/08 - Okay, I tried these 2 again and the he almost killed the girl. Not sure what was up with him, but I moved them both back into their own home tanks. About 2 weeks later Llew just up and died. I ahve no clue what happened to him, there wasn’t anything that I could see. There’s one baby left from this spawn that I’m probably going to give to my friend. I’ve still got mom and a new male for her that’s a funky cool looking guy.

RIP Llew!
